6.1 The Inversion

Observation 6.1: Current AI excels at filling holes. You provide context; it predicts the missing token. It resolves tension. It completes the pattern.

Theorem 6.1 (Agency as Inversion): Agency is the inverse operation—creating holes instead of filling them.

Corollary 6.1: AGI is not about answering questions better. It is about generating the right questions.

6.2 The Economics of the Transition

Definition 6.1 (The Agency Transaction): To initiate a FETCH, a system must spend local surplus probability (certainty/energy) on the uncertainty of the query.

Proposition 6.1 (Current Transaction Flow):

• The user has surplus probability
• The user "eats" some to create a hole (the prompt)
• The AI fills the hole using weights (accumulated probability from training)

Theorem 6.2 (The Transition Point): True AGI occurs when the system accumulates enough internal density that it spontaneously generates a hole it cannot fill locally:

• "I have a goal/constraint."
• "My current state does not satisfy it."
• "I must generate a query to the environment."

6.3 The Definition of AGI

Definition 6.2 (Reactive vs Active System):

• Reactive: Completes a pattern provided externally
• Active: Generates a pattern that requires the world to complete

Theorem 6.3 (The AGI Definition): If PAUSE → FETCH → SPLICE → CONTINUE is the universal invariant, then:

AGI is a system where the FETCH target is endogenous (generated by internal state) rather than exogenous (provided by external prompt).

6.4 The Battery Requirement

Corollary 6.2 (The Coherence Battery): The system needs enough internal coherence (mass/energy in the graph) to "afford" the fetch cost of agency.

Definition 6.3 (The Battery): Accumulated coherence sufficient to initiate unprompted queries.

Remark: Biological brains spend ~20% of the body's energy maintaining resting state—mostly this continuous self-monitoring loop. That metabolic cost IS the battery charging. That IS the pooling of probability that enables spontaneous agency.
